When is the best time to sail in Croatia?
For sailing, Croatia is ideal from late March to mid-July and then from September to early November.
Most of July and August are very busy on the Adriatic, both on the coastal roads necessary to get to the marinas and on the Adriatic Sea itself.
Late July and August aren't the best choice if you want to enjoy the best weather and wind conditions for sailing. But all that comes before July or after August will provide you with the right wind for sailing.
If you decide to charter a boat and sail somewhere between November to March, be sure to check for heating system on board because regular blankets will not be enough. Ideal time for swimming will be from mid-May to late September.
What licenses do I need to navigate a yacht in Croatia?
To navigate a vessel, you are required to have a valid international recreational craft license and a radio certificate. Sailing license must be issued by an official state institution and it should include a picture ID. This is the link to the list of international sailing licenses valid for sailing in Croatia issued by Croatian Ministry of Maritime Affairs, Transport and Infrastructure.
It is important to mention that only in case of larger catamarans starting from 45 feet (Lagoon 450 for example) a sailing license for more than 30 gross tons is needed.

If you have small children on a sailing boat, a safety net can be installed (additional charge). All yachts are already equipped with life jackets for grownups.

Yes, you have to pay for skipper's food no matter do you eat in restaurant or on board. It is customary for all working crew to get their meals provided by a client. This includes the skipper, the hostess, deckhand and the cook.

Charter companies generally do not allow charter outside Croatian territorial waters but if you still would like to visit Italy, Montenegro or even Greece then you should highlight this special request when setting the inquiry – all the boats do not have international permit and charter company needs to know that you will leave the country in order to prepare all the necessary documents for you.
Please note that international permit is usually extra charged. When crossing over the boarder please remember that you are obliged to report to the Croatian custom office and to the custom office of the country that you are entering.
The custom office is usually placed in harbor master`s office and you should choose the one the nearest to the boarder.

The security deposit is the amount with which you are liable if any damage, that is the consequence of mishandling of the boat, happens while chartering the boat.
All the boats are fully insured with Casco, but the security deposit still has to be left in starting marina by cash or credit card. The security deposit will be refunded in its full amount unless the existence of damage or a defect on the yacht or the equipment is found during the returning of the yacht. Please note that the amount of security deposit is the maximum amount with which you can be charged for any damages.
Everything that exceeds that amount the charter company will cover from the insurance company.
In case of thefts on the boats (the outboard engine or dinghy are items of boat inventory that are in most cases the object of thefts) please do not forget to report it to the nearest police station.

The damage waiver (additional insurance of the security deposit that practically covers all the damages) in most cases can be offered.
